If you’ve ever met Grace, you already know she’s pure magic. 🪷💛
She has a way of meeting you exactly where you are. If you come into the barn with your heart racing, she offers calm. If you’re heavy with grief, she lends her steady presence. If you’re ready to grow, she carries you forward with strength and gentleness. Children light up when they see her, adults find themselves exhaling without even realizing it, and everyone leaves touched by her quiet gift. Grace is more than a therapy horse — she is a partner in healing.
One afternoon, a little boy who had been struggling with big feelings climbed onto her back. He fidgeted at first, unsure, but as Grace began her steady walk, his body softened. By the end of the session he was smiling, whispering into her ear, and when he climbed down, he told me, “She makes me feel safe.”
Grace does that. She makes people feel safe in their bodies again.
When we weave Tai Chi and Qigong into her rhythm, something even deeper happens. Her stride becomes a moving meditation, and the rider’s breath begins to flow with hers. One client said it felt like “breathing with the earth itself,” as if the horse, the rider, and the world were all moving in harmony. These sessions offer a sense of balance that lingers long after the rider leaves the barn.
Grace is also trained to support EMDR therapy, and this makes her truly one-of-a-kind. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps people heal from trauma, anxiety, and overwhelming memories. In the barn, Grace creates a space where those memories feel less threatening, more manageable. I’ve watched survivors of trauma steady their breath by laying a hand on her shoulder. I’ve seen veterans with PTSD ride her in silence, slowly finding the courage to release what they’ve been carrying for years. Sometimes the most profound healing doesn’t come from words, but from the presence of a horse who listens without judgment.
One teenager, recovering from a brain injury, once told me, “When I ride Grace, my thoughts stop spinning.” Week by week, that young person found not just balance in their body, but clarity in their mind. Grace had given them a way back to themselves.
The tools we practice with Grace extend far beyond the barn. Together, we use grounding strategies, reflective writing, and even phototherapy to capture moments of connection that can be revisited later. I’ll never forget a young girl who carried a photo of herself riding Grace in her backpack. She told me that when she felt overwhelmed at school, she would look at the picture and remember the feeling of being calm on Grace’s back. “It helps me breathe,” she said. That simple photograph became a lifeline.
Through the seasons, Grace has walked beside so many different journeys. With the support of my equine partner, Kyla Howard, we’ve guided survivors of traumatic brain injury, children and adults on the autism spectrum, people navigating anxiety, PTSD, grief, and the challenges of life transitions. Each story is unique, but Grace finds a way to adapt. Sometimes she’s playful and bright, sometimes she’s steady and grounding, sometimes she simply stands in silence. She always seems to know what’s needed.
We keep this work accessible by billing insurance like traditional counseling — Anthem PPO, UnitedHealthcare, and Crime Victim Compensation are all accepted. Insurance usually covers $93–$110 per session after deductibles, with clients paying their copay plus a small equine and barn fee. Our sessions follow the rhythm of the seasons too — in the fall, Fridays and Saturdays from 4–7 PM, and in the winter, Saturday afternoons.
Every horse has a story, and Grace’s story is one of healing. She carries people through fear into peace, from grief into resilience, from disconnection into balance. She helps them rediscover their own strength and invites them into a relationship where they are safe, seen, and supported.
One client told me,
“She gave me back a part of myself I thought was gone.”
That is the gift Grace gives, ride after ride, step by step.
If you have been searching for a place to breathe deeply, to let go of what weighs you down, or to find healing in partnership with a gentle guide, Grace is waiting. Step into the barn, feel the quiet air, rest your hand on her warm shoulder, and let her walk with you toward peace, one mindful ride at a time. 🌻🐎💛
